Puppies and Kittens

Puppies and kittens are such a joy to welcome into your household, but sometimes they can be a challenge as well. It’s important to learn as much as you can about your young pet’s needs so that you can be prepared for a lifetime of health. We’re here to help you through that process, providing insight and advice about your pet’s individual needs.

For puppies and kittens, we recommend getting started on the right paw by administering heartworm prevention and flea and tick preventatives on a regular basis. We also recommend regular deworming for pets who spend a lot of time outdoors. The early pet vaccine protocol, while subject to your pet’s individual needs, generally includes the following:

Puppies

  • Rabies
  • Canine Distemper
  • Lyme Disease (recommended)
  • Bordetella (recommended)
  • Kennel Cough (recommended)

Kittens

  • Rabies
  • Feline Distemper
  • Feline Leukemia (recommended)

Adult Pets

Adult pets’ health care is generally determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on their needs. Annual physical examinations generally include:

  • Complete tail-to-nose examination
  • Vaccinations, as needed
    • Rabies
    • Canine Distemper
    • Lyme Disease (recommended)
    • Bordetella (recommended)
    • Kennel Cough (recommended)
    • Feline Distemper
    • Feline Leukemia
  • Annual Heartworm Testing
  • Fecal tests (recommended) to check for intestinal parasites

Senior Pets

Senior pets, or pets who are seven years of age or older, often have very specialized needs. Their care especially is determined on an individual basis, depending on their condition and lifelong health. We will often utilize your senior pet’s annual exam to educate you on your pet’s needs, from dental health care to pain management. We recommend annual senior blood work for all of our senior pets to make sure they are healthy. By doing this, we can also detect problems at an early stage to keep your pet living a healthy quality life. We also recommend more extensive diagnostics to check for ongoing conditions. Some of these may require:

  • Blood work
  • Urinalysis

We understand that entering the golden years can be a difficult time for both the pet and the owner and our team is here to help smooth that transition as much as possible. We encourage you to contact us if you have questions about your pet’s aging process and condition, and we’ll be happy to help.
