Microchipping Your Pet at Pleasant View Veterinary Clinic

Responsible and thoughtful pet owners know to get an ID tag for their pet with a phone number or other contact information to wear on a collar. This is designed so that if the pet should happen to go missing, someone who finds the pet will be able to reach out to the worried pet owner and reunite them.

The team at Pleasant View Veterinary Clinic wants you to consider what would happen if your pet’s collar broke and the tag came off. Even if you put up missing pet fliers around town and made announcements on social media, it will be harder for a person who found your animal to bring you back together. This is why we encourage pet microchipping.

Introduction to Pet Microchipping

Pet microchipping is a simple and painless procedure that allows you to permanently identify your animal. The microchip is very small and fits inside of a strong glass capsule (about the size of a grain of rice). Inside the chip is a unique ID number that will correspond to your pet in the database.

The vet will insert the microchip just under the skin of your pet. When someone finds your missing pet, all that needs to be done is to scan the animal (such as at a pet shelter or a veterinarian clinic) to bring up the microchip’s ID number in the database so they can then contact you.

Best of all, you can easily keep your pet’s contact information current by updating the database, such as when you move or change your email or phone. Otherwise, you’d need to throw out the old tag and buy one with new details to attach to your pet’s collar.
